Urban Artistry

B-Boying/B-Girling, Hip-Hop, Popping, House Dance, Locking…this is the world of Urban Dance-speak. All ages will be amazed by Urban Artistry’s high energy moves – spinning and flipping - that are interpreted in a seriously cool way that showcases their historical and international influences. African and Latin cultures, American social dances and even martial arts are among the many inspirations behind these dances that have taken off across the globe. This international collective of choreographers, freestyle dancers, musicians and historians are also professional economists, anthropologists, writers and IT experts – who enthusiastically share their passion for Urban Dance. Founded and directed by Junious “House” Brickhouse, Urban Artistry inspires young people by teaching the invaluable principles of honesty, integrity and accountability through well-designed and culturally enriching experiences.

This multi-cultural group of salsa-ing hip-swingers, martial arts high-jumpers, and break-dancing head-spinners is sure to educate and entertain groups of all ages. This company has many fantastic members, including the integral artists:

Junious "House" Brickhouse is an award winning educator, performer, choreographer, and community leader who began his journey through dance in the Atlanta and Washington D.C underground dance scenes. In 1997 he moved to Europe where he received in depth instruction from Denmark's, Special FX (Out of Control) and Scotty76 of the Assassins Crew in Germany. It was Special FX who mentored and guided him down the path of building in all dance styles to become an ambassador of urban dance culture and an example to all he would come to educate on his journey. Under Scotty's direction he joined the Assassins Crew in Germany and entered various competitions including their award winning show at the International Battle of the Year in 2002 and his individual win at the World Championships for Hip Hop Freestyle in 1999 (IDO). 
 
Founder and Director of the award winning Urban Artistry Dance Company and the DC Chapter of the Assassins Crew, Junious has spent countless hours educating and mentoring in his community. He has served as a judge for various competitions such as the first Annual House Dance International in NYC (2007), the SADE Festival in Helsinki, Finland (2007) and the Breakfestival in Los Angeles, CA (2009). In 2009, he was named a Master Instructor by the Maryland Historic Trust and was awarded the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award in 2010 for performance in a dance solo. Junious's work has been seen in local venues from the Kennedy Center, Sidney Harman Hall and the Performing Arts Center at Strathmore to the cypher in any number of nightclubs, bboy jams or house parties throughout the world.

Emily "Ingonito" Wessel: Emily was introduced to hip hop in the early nineties and fell in love with the culture. It was not until 2004 that she finally started to hit the floor and express herself as a dancer and as an artist. With a background in gymnastics, hip hop, house, and jazz dance, she incorporates a wide range of skills into her art form. Her love of the music and the wisdom she has gained from understanding the culture, has given her the motivation to pass on some of the valuable lessons she has learned about the culture, community and herself by sharing this dance form

Russell "Ironman" Campbell: Russell Campbell was introduced to the element of Hip Hop known as break dancing at the end of 1998. Music and dance have been with him his entire life. Growing up in Silver Spring, Maryland he hit the floor with passion to show others that dancing gives people freedom of expression. His main goal is to show others a way to make dance a safe environment for everyone.
