Samia Ahmad of Bethesda is a master Indian Classical music vocalist who championed causes for international peace and interfaith dialogue. In traditional Hindustani (Indian Classical) music, the human voice is the primary vehicle for the poetry of the divine.

*A new program from the Maryland State Arts Council'sMaryland Traditions program, in partnership with the National Council for the Tradtional Arts (NCTA) and Class Acts Arts. This program is available for grades 6-12 in Montgomery County schools, both public and private.

Born in Bangladesh, Samia received extensive training in Indian classical music in North India before moving to Maryland. She has performed worldwide. Her interest in the intersection of Muslim and Hindu faiths and cultures drives her approach to music, as it informs her music. Samia enjoys exploring musical "universals" between various musical cultures, and has collaborated on projects with South African and Native American experimental and traditional musicians.

*See Programs for Artist Fees

Students explore the multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and multi-faith cultural background of South Asian music and society.
