Weaving a variety of traditional tales with yarns of music and theater, Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo delights his audiences with folktales and myths from Korea, Japan, China, Tibet and more than twenty-three other Asian countries - often embellishing the plots with the lyricism of a bamboo fl ute, or bringing characters to life with animated facial gestures. With a masterful use of timing and elements of surprise, Robert draws students and teachers alike into a joyful exploration of Asian culture. As the renowned storytelling duo Eth-Noh-Tec, Robert and partner Nancy Wang tour nationally and have performed around the world at numerous storytelling festivals, the Smithsonian Discovery Theater, and the National Storytelling Festival at Jonesborough.*See Programs for Artist Fees

Robert Kikuchi-Yngojo is an Asian American performer who tells folk tales, myths, and stories, drawing from both traditional Asian cultures and his Asian American experience.  He weaves these tales using theater, storytelling, movement and music.  Robert started as a musician and poet, studying traditional forms of performance from his ethnic background, and for over 27 years, has been exploring, researching, creating, and promoting his concept of Asian American Culture.

Robert studied traditional Filipino Kulintang gong music, and Japanese Gagaku Court Music, and then performed with Theater Yugen accompanying this experimental Japanese-American Kyogen with his flute playing on the Shakuhachi.  During the late 70's-early 80's, he joined a generation of Asian American artists and activists who chose the Arts to celebrate their experiences and voice their perspectives.  Robert, then known for his political songwriting, dealt with issues of Asian American history, culture, and identity, performing with several bands and theater companies including Yokohama, Bamboo, Noh Buddies, Sining Bayan, and the Asian American Theater Company.

Robert, and his partner, Nancy Wang, together formed Eth-Noh-Tec, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the creation of theatrical storytelling with music and movement.  They have performed throughout the United States, including the Presidential Inauguration Celebration, Smithsonian Discovery Theater, PBS Television, National Public Radio, and the National Storytelling Festival.
